How to Verify a Solana Contract

Step-by-step guide to checking any Solana SPL token contract before you swap.

Why verify a Solana token

On Solana, anyone can create an SPL token in under a minute. There is no approval process, no audit, no gatekeeper. That means when you see a Solana token on a Solana DEX, you cannot assume it is legitimate. Verifying the Solana token before you swap is the difference between a safe Solana trade and a total loss. It takes thirty seconds and prevents the vast majority of Solana scams.

The Solana verification process has six steps. Every step uses free, public Solana tools. You do not need any technical background to run them. See also Avoid Solana Scam Tokens and Solana Rug Pull Protection.

Step 1 - Get the Solana mint address

The Solana mint address is the unique identifier of a Solana SPL token. It looks like a long string of letters and numbers. It is different from a Solana wallet address. If you are buying from a Solana launchpad, a market data site, or any tracker, the Solana mint address is listed on the token page. Copy it exactly.

Step 2 - Open Solscan

Open solscan.io, the official Solana block explorer, and paste the Solana mint address into the search bar. The Solana token page loads showing all metadata: name, symbol, supply, decimals, creation date, and the Solana authorities.

Step 3 - Check Solana authorities

On the Solana token page, look at two fields:
Mint Authority - should be disabled.
Freeze Authority - should be disabled.
If both are disabled, the Solana creator cannot mint new SPL supply or freeze your Solana wallet. If either is enabled, walk away.

Step 4 - Check SPL holders and supply

Open the SPL holders tab on the Solana token page. A healthy Solana token has:
At least 100 unique Solana holders - fewer is a strong scam signal.
Top 10 holders owning less than 50% - more Solana concentration increases dump risk.
No single Solana holder above 10% - except the Solana liquidity pool address, which always holds the LP tokens.

Step 5 - Check Solana liquidity

Open a market data site and search for the Solana mint address. The Solana token page shows total Solana liquidity across all pools. Rules of thumb:
Above $100,000 - deep Solana liquidity, low slippage on small Solana trades.
$10,000 to $100,000 - moderate Solana liquidity, reasonable for small Solana trades.
$1,000 to $10,000 - thin Solana liquidity, high risk of Solana rug.
Below $1,000 - almost certainly a Solana rug.

Step 6 - Test swap on Solana

Before committing your full position, swap a tiny amount ($5 or less) into the Solana token on SwapKing, then immediately try to sell it back. If the Solana sell works and returns roughly what you put in (minus Solana fees and slippage), the Solana token is not a honeypot and you can scale up. If the Solana sell fails or returns far less than expected, you just avoided a Solana rug for $5.

Additional Solana tools

RugCheck - automated Solana risk score. Paste the Solana mint and see if it flags the token.
Birdeye - advanced Solana token analytics with SPL holder charts and Solana trade history.
Honeypot detection sites - simulate Solana buy and sell transactions.
SolSniffer - Solana risk scoring tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I verify a Solana token?

Paste the Solana mint address on Solscan. Check that Solana mint authority and Solana freeze authority are both disabled. Review SPL holders. Then check Solana liquidity.

What is Solana mint authority?

A setting on Solana SPL tokens that lets the creator mint new supply. It should always be revoked for legitimate Solana tokens.

What is Solana freeze authority?

A setting that lets the Solana creator freeze any wallet holding the Solana token. If enabled, the creator can prevent you from selling. It should be disabled.

How much Solana liquidity is safe?

Above $100,000 is safe for small Solana trades. $10,000 to $100,000 is acceptable. Below $5,000 is high risk. Below $1,000 is almost certainly a Solana rug.

How many Solana holders should a token have?

At least 100 is a good baseline. A real Solana token with $1M+ market cap usually has 1,000+ holders.

Can a Solana token have both authorities disabled and still be a scam?

Yes. The most common Solana rug is Solana liquidity removal, which is not controlled by the authorities. Always check the Solana LP lock status as well.
